Dow Launches Students’ Chemical Laboratory at the D. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology

MOSCOW - November 15, 2018 - Today Dow officially opens a students’ chemical laboratory at the D. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. The project is aimed at promoting chemistry and its applications to the younger generation.

“The laboratory we are opening today with the D. Mendeleev University, sets the target to promote chemistry among schoolchildren and attract attention of their parents and teachers to the essential role of the accurate teaching methodologies,” said Arthur Eritspokhov, general manager of Dow in Russia and CIS, during the dedication ceremony. “Dow, the University and chemistry teachers will work jointly in the laboratory to develop programs on the most interesting, fascinating and informative chemistry lectures and experiments for schoolchildren. In fact, investments in the young generation is a key factor for our prosperous future.”

During the event the teachers and students of the University prepared a chemistry lesson for the schoolchildren of Moscow schools # 2092 and # 1315.

The laboratory will be available for all schools in Moscow and its region to organize chemistry lessons by lecturers and students of the University. Any school can apply for a visit of the new laboratory by contacting the University: evasileva@muctr.ru

“The promotion of science is one of the priorities of the D. Mendeleev University. We participate in projects such as the Children’s University, University’s Saturdays, Engineering lessons, League of Knowledge “Natural Intelligence,” which are focused on highlighting fascinating chemistry and its importance in people’s life,” said Alexander Mazhuga, rector of the D. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology. “Pursuing the same objective, we are developing the first chemical techno park for children. With the support of leading chemical companies such as Dow, we will now offer interactive trainings for schoolchildren using modern equipment and demonstrating chemistry in action. I believe these projects are important to enable students to build their educational and career plan.”

Dow’s financial support to the project and the University focused on repairing and refurbishing existing equipment and purchasing new educational tools to deliver fascinating chemistry lessons and experiments.

Dow volunteers will also take an active part in preparing the lessons and experiments as part of the Company’s global STEM initiative, which aims at promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics among students by supporting and initiating educational projects.

Over the past three years, about 3,000 STEM Ambassadors from Dow have supported more than 2,500 teachers and 700 projects enhancing STEM opportunities for over 380,000 students around the world.
