Dow invites the industry to explore solutions for a circular economy at Interplastica 2020
MOSCOW, Russia - January 27, 2020 - Dow (NYSE: DOW) customers and partners will have the opportunity to discuss some of the biggest challenges on the way to a circular economy at Interplastica 2020, Russia’s largest international trade fair for plastics and rubber that will take place from January 28 to 31, 2020 in Expocenter, Moscow. Dow will exhibit a comprehensive suite of products and technologies that help brand owners and converters address sustainability targets while keeping production efficiency. Through case studies and prototypes, Dow will demonstrate the company’s commitment to developing solutions that help advance toward a circular economy in food and industrial packaging, construction and automotive industry, and consumer markets, like, for instance footwear or perfume.
“The company is working in all stages of the circular economy, from sorting and collecting, to end-use markets,” comments Alexander Kulik, sales director for Dow Packaging & Specialty Plastics in Russia and CIS countries. “In collaboration with the industry, Dow created a rich portfolio of technologies that helps to produce recyclable packaging, which is more and more demanded in the local market.”
Advancing the circular economy in packaging
Dow’s packaging offering comprises of concepts for simple multilayered structures without barrier, more complex packaging with customized barrier for food protection, as well as conversion process redesign – including the use of compatibilizers to help enhance the mechanical recyclability of multilayer packaging and a spout insertion technology. PE-rich polymer solutions for pouches and thermoformed packaging deliver similar production efficiency to existing multi-material packaging structures while enhancing their mechanical properties.
“Dow’s innovative polymer solutions suitable for tie, core, skin and seal layers of meat packaging help to keep the product fresh up to three times longer, while using only a third of the packaging material compared to conventional methods. The result is a food waste reduction of up to 75 percent at the retailer level.” explained Romain Cazenave, marketing director EMEA at Dow’s Packaging and Specialty Plastics business. “By combining INNATE™ and DOWLEX™ high-performance resins, BYNEL™ functional polyolefins in the tie layers, AFFINITY™ sealants as well as APPEEL™ peelable resins and SURLYN™ ionomers, we can now offer meat and cheese packaging solutions with enhanced structure and conversion requirements of the industry.”
Encouraging reuse and resource efficiency in packaging
Dow will showcase the different applications of the versatile PACXPERT™ Packaging Technology, challenging the conventional rigid containers with a robust, yet light and easy to handle flexible packaging that uses up to 80% less material. The technology also enables storage and transportation costs reduction, ultimately helping to reduce CO2 emissions.
This offering includes the most recent development, the PE-rich structure made with RecycleReady Technology, a film constructed with multiple layers of poly-laminated polyethylene (PE/PE).
One-stop-shop beyond packaging
Interplastica guests and customers will also have the opportunity to discover various applications of Dow polymers in one place, including:
- Infrastructure: NORDEL™ EPDM elastomers for building profiles, enabling outstanding surface quality, low-temperature performance, exceptional mechanical properties.
- Transportation: ENGAGE™ and NORDEL™ EPDM elastomers enabling vehicle lightweighting, more efficient manufacturing, superior mechanical performance and much more.
- Wire&Cable: Dow ENDURANCE™ for power and Dow AXELERON™ for telecom cables.
- Footwear: ENGAGE™ PV POEs and INFUSE™ Olefin Block Copolymers offering exceptional resilience, superior elasticity, increased durability and excellent softness in full EVA footwear.
- Perfume caps: made of 40% recycled SURLYN™ ionomers – as the result of a partnership with Italian cosmetic packaging manufacturer Premi.
“Dow is committed to further accelerating our position in the elastomers market, staying on top of industry trends, and providing our customers with innovative solutions which are tailored to the manufacturers’ processing requirements across the region,” commented Grant Fisher, sales director for Infrastructure, Consumer and Transportation at Dow Packaging and Specialty Plastics in Europe.
